A floating license offers organizations the option to let all employees use the license as long as the number of concurrent users does not exceed the number of purchased licenses. A Multi-user license is a floating license that is installed on a license server. Autodesk has made many changes to their licensing model in recent years, which is why we regularly review Autodesk licensing use with customers.Īs of August 2021, Autodesk will no longer offer new Multi-user licenses and with that the next big step has been made to exclusively Named Users. In my daily conversations with customers, I get a lot of questions about the new changes within Autodesk. In Belgium and Luxemburg, this transition went smoothly and we see that customers have made the switch to subscriptions. Autodesk is no exception to this and in the past three four they have gradually said goodbye to perpetual licenses with maintenance contracts. The rationale behind this is that the suppliers want to focus directly on the users and not on 'serial keys'. Consider, for example, the developments within Microsoft or Adobe, which have both switched from a perpetual licensing model to a subscription model. Many software suppliers are increasingly focusing on end users and are saying goodbye to old models based on 'serial keys'.
